Wiring Diagrams

Model-specific installation guides. Each one shows every labeled GenStart terminal, what it connects to on your generator, and the exact settings to enter in the app.

Don't see your generator? GenStart works with most electric-start models — email support@acidni.net with your make and model and we'll put a diagram together for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What generators are compatible with GenStart?
GenStart works with any generator that has electric start capability — including portable generators (Generac, Honda, Champion, etc.) and standby units. GenStart supports both push button start and rocker switch start generators.
What inverters work with GenStart?
GenStart works with any inverter that has a dry contact or relay output — including EG4, Sol-Ark, Growatt, Victron, and others.
Do I need WiFi for GenStart to work?
The auto-start function works without WiFi — it's triggered by the physical dry contact from your inverter. WiFi is required for cloud monitoring, remote management, firmware updates, and AI diagnostics. To use the 2-wire start wireless relay, you need a wireless network already set up.
How is GenStart powered?
GenStart is powered from either a USB-C connection (5V) or directly from your generator's 12V battery system via a voltage regulator. The controller draws minimal power (< 200mA).
What happens if the generator doesn't start?
GenStart will attempt up to 3 start cycles (configurable). Each cycle activates the start relay for a configurable duration. If all attempts fail, it logs a failure event and sends a notification to your dashboard.
Can I install GenStart myself?
Yes, GenStart is designed for DIY installation. You'll need basic wiring skills to connect the start and stop relay outputs to your generator's start wires and the dry contact input to your inverter. Connections vary by generator model. Detailed wiring guides are provided.
Are firmware updates automatic?
Yes. GenStart checks for updates over WiFi and can auto-install them. Updates use an A/B partition scheme so if an update fails, the device automatically rolls back to the last working firmware.

Troubleshooting

GenStart won't connect to WiFi

  1. Ensure your WiFi network is 2.4 GHz (GenStart does not support 5 GHz)
  2. Check that the WiFi password is correct (case-sensitive)
  3. Move GenStart closer to your router or add a WiFi extender
  4. Power cycle GenStart by disconnecting and reconnecting power

Generator doesn't start when triggered

  1. Verify the inverter dry contact relay is closing (check with multimeter)
  2. Check wiring connections on start and stop relays
  3. Ensure generator has fuel and battery is charged
  4. Check the crank duration setting (may need to increase)
  5. Review start event logs in the dashboard for error codes

Dashboard shows device offline

  1. Check WiFi connection status on the device LED
  2. Verify your internet connection is working
  3. Power cycle GenStart
  4. Check the dashboard at genstart.acidni.net for last telemetry timestamp
